拍品描述: Description Near East, Syria, Seleucid Dynasty, ca. 145 to 140 BCE. A silver Demetrius II tetradrachm with diademed head on front and eagle standing on prow, holding a trident club. The Seleucid Empire, one of the Hellenistic states founded following the division of the Macedonian empire following Alexander the Great's death, was, at least for its elites and rulers, essentially Greek, and Greek customs and culture dominated it.
