(35 x 41 cm.)15 3/8 x 17 7/8 x 17 7/8 in. (39 x 45.5 x 45.5 cm.) (the fitted box)"Born on the island of Awaji in Hyogo Prefecture, Kano Mitsuo (1903-1970) is known for his fine glazes. Mitsuo began his formal study at the Kyoto City Pottery Research School under the tutelage of Komori Shinobu (1889-1962). In 1920, he moved to China and entered the Chinese Ceramic Institute at Dalian, devoting himself to the study of the nation’s vast ceramic tradition. Mitsuo later went on to exhibit works at international ceramic exhibitions held in Belgium (1961), Czechoslovakia (1962), and Italy (1964).
