拍品描述: A SARK?Y PRAYER KILIMWEST ANATOLIA, LATE 19TH CENTURY"The indigo field with two prayer arches decorated with radiating hooked motifs at either end, above and below a central crimson lozenge medallion with a stylised flowering tree, in a fir-green border with a delcate zig zag leafy vine and an ivory and crimson inner stripe, overall excellent condition5ft.2in. x 3ft.5in. (156cm. x 105cm.)"Sark?y kilims originate in the historical Balkan region immediately west of the Bosporus, in the area of Thrace, which relates to parts of modern-day Greece, Bulgaria and European Turkey. For centuries this area was a cultural and ethnic melting pot, most recently under the Ottoman empire. These accomplished pieces are instantly identifiable by their highly stylised, abstract designs, woven in a bold and vibrant colour range with a particular emphasis on the use of green.
