A fine cloisonné-enamel jar and coverMeiji era (1868-1912), late 19th centuryThe globular body worked in colored enamels and gold and silver wires with three oval panels containing a coiling dragon, a phoenix in flight, and a butterfly in peonies, all on a yellow ground, the panels each framed by chrysanthemums and vines, some of the blossoms spilling over the border onto the panels, the shoulder finished with a lappet collar containing butterflies and the foot banded by chrysanthemum petals, all on a midnight blue ground, the dome cover with floral-petal reserves with blossoms, surmounted by a gilt chrysanthemum finial, the rim and base plate gold, signed on a silver tablet Kyoto Namikawa 4in (10.1cm) high
