Muromachi period (1333-1573), 16th centuryOf joined-block construction and decorated in pigments and goufun, the figure shown standing with his weight on his back leg, his right arm raised as if holding an implement, his kariginu (hunting)-style robes with full sleeves and decorated with floral medallions, his trousers with scrolling vines, his face bearing a stern expression under a court cap, the eyes inlaid in reverse-painted glass, set on a modern wood base 21 1/2in (54.6cm) high
