One of the leading exponents of the Ukiyo-e revival in Osaka during the early decades of the twentieth centuries, Kitano Tsunetomi was active as a printmaker, illustrator, painter, and teacher. His works submitted to the national exhibition demonstrate a trend toward minimalism, suggesting that this and the following lot were likely painted later in his career.
