注脚
Toshio Aoki (also known as Aoki Hyosai) learned the techniques of Japanese-style painting in ink and mineral pigments as a young man in Japan. In 1880 he was hired by an import store to paint for the U.S. market, resulting in his relocation to San Francisco. By the early 1890s he was operating his own painting business and soon established a second highly successful studio in southern California.
