Katsushika Isai (1821-1880), Pair of Paneled Paintings, Japan, late 19th century, each depicting a landscape near the water with fishermen holding the oar "eku" in one, engaged in "eku" fishing using comorants under the moon in the other, both signed "Isai ga" with two seals, ink and color on silk, framed and glazed, painting 57 3/8 x 18 5/8 in. Note: Documentation includes an authentication letter signed by John M. Rosenfield at Fogg Art Museum in 1978, and a letter about conservation treatment at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 1989. Estimate $5,000-7,000 not examined out of frame, both with triangular discolorations to the upper, one with comorant fishing scene with discolored lines to borrom left corner, minor spotty stains.
