Pair of Ceramic Trinket Boxes in an Embroidered Silk Case, China, 19th/20th century, the top of each decorated with a boy riding a qilin, the sides with flowers, the red silk case embroidered with a crane, pine, and prunus blossoms, dia. 1 1/2, case 3 3/4 x 2 1/4 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
