拍品描述: 1843 Letter from William Aldam MP written in Buffalo, New York to England, America L postmark. This lot comprises a four page letter of 1843 from William Aldam (then MP for Leeds) to his father in England written in Buffalo NY. He gives acerbic views of the people of Buffalo, the ladies of "cold expression"; the people at the theatre "in the pit...indulge in this constant perpetration of jeers, shouts and bellowing which would do credit to a wild beast establishment at feeding time"; comments on trade; compares Buffalo with Toronto and comments on what he considers is a high amount of crime detailed in the newspaper.
