A large Victorian silver platter or dish, the shaped oblong form with wide edge curving outwards and applied foliate detail to opposing ends, with gadroon rim to the other side and further crest and armorial engraved. Hallmarked William Ker Reid, London 1854. Length 20.5 (52cm), weight 80.95 ozt (2518 grams). Displaying general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.Surface nicks and some minor dints/bumps. It is possible that it is a stand or base, maybe for a tureen There are four circular patches to each corner, visible to both sides. Possibly from where something was previously standing or attached Pitted/pin prick marks form the circles. It is also unclear which way the dish should stand. The correct way is possibly with the raised centre, which a tureen or similar piece previously stood on The gadroon rim is seen on this side and also the hallmarks and engraved crest and armorial are the right way up on this side. Hallmarks are clear and legible.
