A mid-19th century Russian silver travelling candle holder, mark of Sazikov, the rounded rectangular dish base with personal engraving in French, the centre rising to a short hollow stem with a removable plain socket. Struck to base with the Imperial Warrant and maker's mark, 84 standard, alongside a partly worn Assay Master mark dated 1858 and an indistinct city mark, socket marked 84 only with a cyrillic maker's mark. Length of base 3.5 (9cm), weight 4.82 ozt (150 grams). Displaying some general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing. A few surface nicks and minor dints, particularly around edges and to corners. French engraving to one side of dish and dated 1873. Assay marks located to base. Imperial Warrant mark and maker's mark a little rubbed but still clearly legible. Upper section of Assay Master mark mostly erased. City mark also worn and indistinct. The removable socket may not be original to the base but it does appear to be a good fit.
