拍品描述
An early silver church chalice, possibly 17th century, the hexagonal-sided spread base with a border of Latin inscription dated 1636, with an acanthus motif to each corner and one panel engraved with a scene of the Crucifix below the Latin initials 'INRI', and rising to a conforming hexagonal stem with large central knop below a slightly flared plain cup with gilt interior. Appears unmarked. Height 8.25 (21cm), weight 9.36 ozt (291.2 grams). The initialism INRI represents a Latin inscription, which in English translates to Jesus the Nazarene, King of the JewsMetal tested in various areas and results show slight variance between 91-93% Ag. Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns. Fellows does not guarantee the standard of silver unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible.
