An elegantly curved handle carved in the round with scrolling lotus petals and foliage. The angular tip with a slight russet skimming is drilled to attach a silk tassel, 18th/19th C. L 40.6 cm. (16 in.)The work Ruyi means 'as one desires,' and is associated with expressions such as jixiang ruyi,' Scepters were known to have been commissioned by Qing emperors either to commemorate birthdays orto be bestowed as birthday gifts.
From a Hong Kong Gentleman, acquired in the 1970s.
Inclusions to the stone found on the side of the ruyi head and the back of the lotus. No chips to the jade or obvious areas of grinding.Overall a well carved stone of fine quality. Thickness measures 1 in.
