A VERY RARE GEMSTONES INLAID ‘ELEPHANT’ BRONZE INCENSE BURNER, LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY 明晚期 16/17世紀 銅嵌寶石象形香燻 The heavily cast Buddhist elephant standing squarely with the head turned to the left to look backwards, back with incised saddle supporting a reticulated lotus cover, height 10.2" — 26 cm. Provenance: Estate of renowned American artist, Mr. Ronald K. Shepherd (1951-2015) 美籍藝術家羅納德.謝佛珍藏 Mr. Shepherd was born in Denver, Colorado, and attended high school in Cocoa, Florida. After graduating, he enrolled in Tulsa University where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He also went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon. Whether collecting it or creating it, art was Mr. Shepherd’s passion. He acquired an extensive collection of fine art through auctions and travels abroad, including Chinese bronzes, rare furniture and coins. He was also an accomplished fine artist, creating works of pottery, pencil drawings and wood sculptures.
