JOAQUIM MIR I TRINXET (1873-1940). "GARDEN OF THE PERE MATA ISTITUTE" REUS, CIRCA 1906.
Signed. Joaquim Mir is one of the greatest exponents of C19th-C20th Catalan painting. His training at the Liotja de Barcelona introduced him to renowned artists such as Nonell, Canals and Pichot, along with whom he founded Colla de Safrà in around 1983 in order to further his relationship with the artistic circle at Els Quatre Gats. After a stay of nearly three years in Majorca, in 1903, he went into the Institute Pere Matas in Reus for health reasons, where he stayed until 1906, the date of this painting which we present to you. From this date he would spend a fruitful time in the Camp de Tarragona where he would paint the beautiful landscapes of L'Aleixar and Maspujol. It is to this period that his most famous works belong.
