Description:
Rare bronze statue of Ancient China’s lost civilization historically called “Sanxigdui” (named after the region of tribe discovery) in southern part of China around 3500 years ago.
Authenticity report: This piece belongs that era.
What makes this bronze art work unique is the marks of gold engravings which are still visible on the body of the statue. This showed that Sanxingdui were skilled and advanced in metallurgy.
Note the other classic motifs engraved on the head stand, including the circles and swirly clouds design, reminding one of the influence of dominant Shang Dynasty in the north.
Sanxingdui culture existed contemporaneously with the Early and Late Shang (1600-1027 BCE). The site at Chenggu shows influence from both Shang and Sanxingdui.
Condition: genuine greenish patina with patches of oxidation, some grooves contain gold engravings, no defects.
Provenance: A seasoned antique collector from New Jersey, USA, who wishes to divest his high value estate collection.
Estimate $30,000-$80,000
