Rare Napoleonic Sarguemines, Lorraine, France Imitation Porphyry Urn circa 1810, in 2 parts secured with a hand wrought iron butterfly wing-nut onto a green marble base. Good condition; 1 chip and a few flakes along bottom edge of top. Height 11 inches (28 cm.). Note: In 1809, Sarguemines was awarded a Gold Medal for their newly discovered pulverized stone imitations of porphyry, basalt, jasper, and by the following year was completing Imperial Commissions in the material for Napoleon through Baron Vivant-Denon.
