LOT NOTES Dimitri Petrov studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in his early years. He became involved in designing, producing and writing short films. He was attracted to the Dada and Surrealist movements, exhibiting at the Iolas Gallery with the other Surrealists. He collaborated with artists such as Tanguy, Miro, Lam, Parker Tyler and Joseph Cornell. Petrov helped to sustain a surrealist paper with Duchamp and Max Ernst. He is represented in many personal collections including Niarchos, Peggy Guggenheim, Roy Neuberger, Igor Stravinsky, and the many members of the De Menils, all of whom have outstanding art collections. Public collections such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Pasadena Museum, Museum of Modern Art, and many University museums throughout the country, all have Petrov in their permanent collections. Petrov is accomplished in all the visual media including graphics, having also studied in Stanley W. Hayter`s Atelier 17.
