EXPERTISE The authenticity of this lot has been confirmed by Shahen Khachatryan, former director of the Martiros Saryan Museum in Erevan, appointed by Saryan in 1967, and former Head of the National Gallery of Armenia. A copy is available upon request.
LOT NOTES According to an expert opinion by Shahen Khachatryan, the present lot was created in Novyi Nakhidzhevan, the artist`s hometown (now the area of Rostov na Donu in Russia). Mr. Khachatryan suggests that the present lot is a portrait of the artist`s very close and beloved relative. This work appears to be rather unusual for Saryan, but somewhat characteristic in his pursuit of a unique style. The 24 year old artist went through quite a few experimental stages during the early 1900s, while actively participating in studios of K. Korovin and V. Serov.
