Japan. Mino. Early Edo period. 17th/18th c. a) Food vessel modelled after western wine goblets, faceted hexagonal. Mino, Oribe yaki. Stoneware glazed transparent, painted with iron oxide brown with plum blossoms and thick green Oribe glaze. H.10,1cm, ? 8,2cm. Inscribed wooden box (kiribako): Oribe Edo shoki koppu-gata mukozuke, Hachidai Kenzan, Josen kan with seal. Chugoku Ningen Kokuho (living national treasure of China) Kenzan, Yamamoto Josen. b) Tea bowl of reddish brown stoneware with grey-green, crazed ash glaze, hail pattern (arare) in relief and painted with iron oxide red. Triangular, low form on flat base ring. Seto. 18th c. Old gold lacquer repair. H. 6cm, ? 15cm. Cedar wood box (sugibako). Condition A/B.
