Thailand. Early Ayutthaya period. Late 14th/early 15th c. Yellow sandstone with residue of gilding, red and black lacquer. The eyes with original mother-of-pearl inlay. The long and straight shape of the nose continues in two elegant brow arching above the expressive eyes with half closed lids. This shape is repeated in the hairline. The two stepped ushnisha as well as the hairstyle is decorated with fine relief dots depicting the hair. The ketumala flame is missing. The lips showing a slight smile, are accentuated by a fine, circumferential engraved line. The ears are elongated and refer to the royal descent of the Buddha. Height 47cm, width 31,5cm, depth 27cm.
