China. Mid Qing dynasty. 18th/19th c. Silver partly gilt, finely engraved and punched. In eight round medallions on a finely punched ground and in flat and high relief various landscapes with people and animals in lush vegetation. Between the medallions engraved eight smaller cartouches with plants and flowers. Weight 2160g, ? 46cm, height 3.5cm. Dutch import mark (1814-1893), used for large objects consisting of at least 833 silver. Condition A/B. The extremely detailed and fine decoration with partial gilding is typical of silver from the middle of the Qing Dynasty. The plate was left unmarked, which is not unusual for Chinese silver from this period. Only on later export silver more often a Chinese manufacturer mark can be found. Compare: -A small silver wine ewer with comparable decoration, also unmarked and dated to the same period was auctioned in our auction 406 as lot 2581.
