拍品描述: A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE VIRGIN OF THE BURNING BUSH, PALEKH SCHOOL, 18TH CENTURY
the Virgin, holding the symbols that connect the Heaven and the Earth, is depicted in the center of a green-blue rhombus, symbolizing the bush that does not burn, with the red rhombus around it representing the burning flame, containing the symbols of the four evangelists and their angelic powers gathering around to protect the Virgin, the four prophecies predicting the fate of Mary are depicted in the corners of the kovcheg and further explained by descriptions on the border. Egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on wood panel. Two insert splints on the back (one missing). 35 x 30 cm (13 1/4 x 11 3/4 in.)
