Fire-gilt repousse. China, presumably Qing to Republic (19th – 20th cent.)
Standing camel with raised head and tongue protruding from its open mouth. The saddle with floral decorations forms a detachable cover embellished with two stag around the oval surface. The repousse work showcases impressive technicality and covers the entire surface of the body with exception of the lower legs. Flames, spirals and horns emerge from the pattern, perhaps depictions of mythical animals. Green patina in areas without gilding.
HEIGHT 25,5 CM, LENGTH 23,6 CM
