Colored enamel on metal. Japan, Meiji to later, 1st half 20th cent.
Decorative and elegantly designed, large vase with two big picture reserves. Ovoid, tall shape; the short neck with oval opening is concavely curved. The enamel around the reserves is white depicted with ornamental kiku blossoms. The pictoral composition presents three red-crested cranes tanchotsuru, standing in front of bamboo and on a consistent light blue background. On the back are peony and plum as well as three little birds, one is passing flight. Borders around the foot and neck display rowed, geometric flowers.
