Wood. China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)
Original, massive piece - particularly the head is far more brawny than nature can offer. The reclining rabbit has long ears, like horns swept back. On the head is a square with a cross, from which a leaf-shaped symbol runs to the nose and an arrow to the back. In China the rabbit is a long life symbol and member of the zodiac. Very compact design, powerful grain of the reddish wood, flat underneath. Some traces of use.
LENGTH 47,3 CM
