Bronze. India, Bastar, approx. 19th cent.
A guardian deity from Bastar-tribe house altar, standing on a domed base. Wide shoulders, chains around the neck and breast, pointed breasts, a loin cloth and a circular ornament around the naval. An offering cup and a prod are held in the hands. An arched openwork nimbus with a bowl on top, and a long thatch of hair hanging down the back. Strong patina.
