Painted ceramic. America, Guatemala, approx. 6th to 9th cent.
Deep bowl with vertical, lightly curved sides that are painted outside with ornament. The motifs are three: composed in larger and smaller C-forms, surrounding a central theme, altogether poss. florally inspired. Circulating bands and lines; the once radially arranged pattern on the bottom now worn due to age. the rim is black; only one red band encircles the interior. Colors typical for this vessel, originating in the "Late Classic" and offering a very authentic condition.
