Coloured ceramic with gold. Japan, Meiji or later, 19th cent. – 1st half of 20th cent.
Of ovoid baluster form with tapering foot and mouth. Typical Satsuma ware colours with fine craquele. Depicted are mountains, a sea and temple, a Bijin (beautiful woman) with an umbrella in the foreground, next to her a boy and large fuji flowers (Wisteria). Many contours painted in gold. A satsuma mark and the artist’s name CHO-SHU-SAN長 州 山 on the bottom.
