Qi Baishi 齊 白石 was in Europe one of the most famous modern Chinese painters in in the 1920′s. The present color woodblock print, so-called "watercolor woodblock print", was published in 1952, before the artist′s death. The book opens with the picture of a drawing of the artist that depicts him signing a book, dated 1952. Following are some of his most famous designs, blossoms, bamboo, mushrooms, squash as well as various animals like shrimps, sparrows, catfish, crabs, fish, frogs, dragonflies. The signatures are mainly Qi Baishi or only Baishi (in German "white rock"), partially with the addition Laoren 老人 "the old one". Altogether 21 pictures. These watercolor woodblock prints come from the studio most famous for them, Rongbaozhai 荣 寶 齋 in Peking. Elegantly bound in floral brocade on the cover and slipcase, the back labeled by Qi Baishi Huaji (Picture Collection of Qi Baishi).
