Although Kobayashi Eitaku was an educated kan? painter, he primarily worked as color woodblock print artist and illustrator. However, Hasegawa Takejir?`s (1853-1936) assignment made him mostly well-known for his many chirimen-bon illustrations: Books printed on crepe paper with Japanese poems, myths and legends in foreign languages, among others in English, German and French.
