SMALL BI DISC
Jade. China, Eastern Zhou, late Chunqiu Period, 6th to 5th cent. BC
Delicate, white jade disc with larger inner opening, a so-called huan. Compactly designed relief on both sides featuring typical archaic pattern of C with twisted ends. Also seen are L-shaped spirals, as well as two little fields with grid patterns. This jade was directly next to a bronze, as shown by areas with green bronze patina, further soil deposits. The translucence is pure white, very good condition.
