Famille-rose porcelain with enamel colours and gold. China, late Qing to Republic (19th cent. – 1st third of 20th cent.)
This densely decorated vase features a variety of scenes as well as floral ornaments. There are various pictorial reserves with figural scenes within a border containing Babao, the eight precious things, or floral décor with amusingly painted bats appearing between. Multiple court scenes show a performance and depictions of ladies, servants and men. Other large to somewhat smaller sized reserves contain flowers, butterflies and colourful birds. One of them depicts a phoenix (or peacock) surrounded by peonies, and what appear to be amphibious creatures on the ground in front. Various luck and longevity symbols are also present. Small restoration on the lip, but in very good condition otherwise.
