Bronze. China, poss. Song to Ming (13th – approx. mid 17th cent.)
Rectangular fanding in archaic style on four curved legs out of which lion heads emerge. The rim is straight and flared, vertical handles shaped like an angular, upside-down U. Very compact decor with floral pattern on the sides, as well as bagua (Eight Trigrams) from Yijing (I-ching), the famous book of oracle and wisdom. Strong age- and smoke patina.
