Thangka painting
Tibet
2nd half 20th cent.
SIZE 45 x 62 CM
A spirited depiction showing the god of death with a third eye and tiger tail clutching the wheel of life. The outer circle of the wheel depicts characteristics that lead to the intertwining with the wheel of reincarnation. The inner circle offers the three deadly sins, depicted as animals, each holding at the others tail to symbolize the eternal circle. Modern thangka, painted in the traditional old Tempera techniques with mineral colours by exile Tibetans at Sikkim.
