The female bodhisattva Syamatara, the Green Tara, seated in rajalilasana with one foot resting on its second smaller lotus pedestal. Gesturing the fulfilment of wishes with his right hand in varadamudra, the left hand in vitarka and also holding the stem of a lotus. Necklace reaching down to the breasts, bejewelled ears, a bodhisattva crown and chignon, lotus flowers left and right of him, seated on a lotus throne with a vishvavajra on the closure. Beautiful dark brown patina and remnants of former gilding.

Both Tara – the white and the green – were spouses of the Tibetan king Songstan Gampo (7th century) who became bodhisattvas or guardian gods.
