Signed “Berryman”, also inscribed “Clarissa L. Townsend – From C.K. Berryman”; c.1904-1907. The artist was a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist for the Washington Star newspaper and also for the Washington Post; one of his most noted cartoons titled “Drawing The Line In Mississippi” depicts a scene of hunter Theodore Roosevelt showing compassion towards a bear cub, which inspired New York Store owner Morris Michtom to create the “Teddy Bear”. 17 in. high x 17 in. wide.
