拍品描述: Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. People have always wished to see their own reflections, and probably first gazed upon their countenances in pools of water, streams and rivers which were the earliest mirrors. In time humankind's ingenuity made it possible to invent the mirror. Here we have a lovely ancient Roman bronze mirror, composed of three pieces, the mirror itself, a vertical handle attached to the lower end, as well as a strap handle attached to back side. The handles are nicely shaped and beautifully detailed. Gorgeous green patina! The entire piece is mounted for perfect 360 degree display on a custom Lucite stand. Size: mirror itself measures 9.5" H (24.1 cm); with stand 10.75" (27 cm)

Provenance: Acquired by present owner in Izmir, Turkey, in 1965; ex-Ancient Art International, FL.
