Chinese Sui Dynasty Groom Figure of a Rare Foreigner
科罗拉多
2016年01月29日 开拍
拍品描述
Far East, China, Sui Dynasty, ca. 581 to 618 CE. A highly-fired glazed pottery figure created during the Sui Dynasty (581-618 CE) or possibly the Tang Dynasty (618-906 CE). The attractive yellow glaze covering most of the figure is usually referred to as a “straw glaze.” From the knees down, however, the figure is intentionally free of glaze. This alert gentleman wears a belted robe and carries a pitcher in his right hand. His expressive visage is topped by a large hat, most likely with fur trim to keep him nice and warm. While his pose suggests the modesty of a servant, he still presents a very dignified stance. Size: 12" H (30.5 cm)
