Ancient Indian Terracotta Temple Toy - Ram Form
科罗拉多
2016年01月29日 开拍
拍品描述
India, probably North, Sunga and Kushan periods, 2nd century BCE to 3rd century CE. This is a realistic depiction of a standing ram with delightful decoration on the horns and wearing some kind of blanket or yoke; wheels on axles would have originally gone through the holes in the legs, forming a pull toy. Toy carts in the shape of a ram have been excavated from several urban sites across northern and western India during the Sunga and Kushan Periods. These may have been children's toys but many of them probably had religious significance and they are associated with temples. Size: 5.25" L x 2.8" W x 5.25" H (13.3 cm x 7.1 cm x 13.3 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Boston, MA collector S.C.
