Japan Bizen-ware Sake Vessel in form of Tanuki
科罗拉多

拍品描述
Japan, ca. 18th century CE. This is a bizen ware sake bottle shaped like a Tanuki with delightful details -- he holds a bottle or canteen in his right hand and a plaque with Japanese characters suspended from his left wrist. Bizen ware, also sometimes known as Inbe ware, is kilned unglazed, but during the 8 to 20-day pine wood firing, reaching temperatures of approximately 1250? (2282 F°), it becomes naturally glazed with pine ash. Tanuki, the delightful canine trickster figure of Japanese mythology, gives this piece an air of whimsy. Size: 3.75" L x 3.75" W x 6.5" H (9.5 cm x 9.5 cm x 16.5 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Paul and Louise Bernheimer, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA, acquired before 1980.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
