拍品描述
Central Asia, India, Mughal, ca. 1724 CE. An elegantly illuminated leaf from a manuscript scribed in Luchnow, Mughal India in the early 18th century. The text is by Jalal al-Din Rumi, one of the most highly esteemed Sufi Muslim poets, who eventually became a professor of mystic theosophy in Iconium, founded the famous Maulawi dervishes (colloquially dubbed the whirling dervishes). Perhaps his best work was the Mathnawi, a delineation of Suni Muslim spiritual and moral tenets. The Mathnawi is an extensive work comprised of six books and more than 30,000 double rhymed verses that took over 25 years to complete. This page would make an ideal addition to any collection of illuminated manuscripts. Finely matted. Size: page itself measures 5.375" L x 2.625" W (13.7 cm x 6.7 cm); matted 9" L x 7" W (22.9 x 17.8 cm).

Provenance: Ex-estate of M. Reiniger, Chicago, IL

品相报告
Intact and very good. Normal aging. Written description that accompanies the piece reads in part, "This elegant and beautifully illuminated pate is from the remains of a wonderful quality manuscript which, sadly, was mostly ruined by damp."
