拍品描述
Southeast Asia, Burma, modern day Myanmar, ca. late 18th century CE. A front or side teak wood panel from a Buddhist monk's storage trunk, with a complex iconographic program comprised of two standing images of Buddha on either side of a central stupa with trees of life flanking either side of the stupa, lions facing each tree trunk, flags beside the trees, and a pair of attendants carrying a bell beneath each Buddha. The entire composition is framed in a floral motif border - all created via a lacquer paste applique of rich brown hues with red lacquer along the top edge of the panel. A truly special and rare find that boasts wondrous artistry and spiritual meaning! Size: 24" x 18" x 1" (61 x 45.7 x 2.5 cm)
