19th C. Japanese Lacquered Wood Shrine - Shaka Buddha
科罗拉多

拍品描述
Japan, ca. 1880 CE. Small lacquered and gilt wooden shrine of the Shaka Buddha (Siddharta) flanked by bodhisattvas (Monju Bosatsu and Fugen Bosatsu). Buddha is seated in the lotus position with his fight hand in Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness) and left hand in Vara Mudra (gesture of charity). They sit atop a golden, multi-tiered throne, with golden mandralas behind their heads. A shrine like this would have been kept in a household butsudan, Japanese for Buddhist altar. The level of detail on this piece, especially the carving of the mandrala and of the figures, is amazing. Size: 9" W x 9" H x 4" L (23 cm x 23 cm x 10 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private northern Colorado collection.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

品相报告
This piece has been repaired, but looks almost entirely intact for display -- only the fingers of one hand of the central figure are missing. There is expected wear and patina but the artwork is clear.
