拍品描述
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Rattanakosin Kingdom, ca. 19th century CE. This beautiful piece is cast bronze with lacquer and gold-leaf. It depicts a Buddha with graceful, symmetrical eyebrows and ears, tightly curled hair and a peaceful expression on his face. He wears flowing robes with a cape and stands in the Abhaya mudra or the "gesture of fearlessness" which dispels fear and gives divine protection; his right hand is held out, palm outwards. He stands atop a lotus bud throne with a flame-spiked, three-tiered base. The details on his clothing and on the base of his throne are ornate and truly remarkable. The Rattanakosin period in Buddhist art represented a break with previous styles; the center of production and religious worship shifted to Bangkok and bronze replaced wood as the dominant material for making statues of the Buddha and other Buddhist icons. This piece reflects that change. Size: 48-1/4"H x 16"W x 12"L (122-1/2 cm x 41 cm x 30-1/2 cm). IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to size, crating will be required. Please inquire about shipping.
