19th C. Burmese Painted Bamboo Temple Offering Jars
科罗拉多
2016年01月29日 开拍
拍品描述
Burma, ca. 19th century CE. These are spectacularly painted bamboo offering bowls from Burmese temples, encrusted with colorful glass jewels. They were vessels used during temple festivals to hold water and alms. Both of these open and have heavily lacquered deep red interiors. They are incredibly light and have swirling, delicate designs in dark red over their gold exteriors. During Burmese Buddhist ceremonies, it is customary to pour water over images of the Buddha as part of a prayer offering; these bowls would have been used for that. Size: 17"H x 6-1/2" diameter (43 cm x 16-1/2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Private Northern Colorado collection.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
