Sandstone. China, presumably Ming dynasty (1368 – 1644)
Possibly the head of a Guanyin, hinted by the very mild and rather feminine expression, for she is not only a bodhisattva, but also a mother-goddess. A round face, bejewelled ears and above all, her characteristic chignon which bloats upwards in three wide arches. Signs of age and patina, hardly noticeable small bruises, overall good condition. Mounted on a black metal base. 砂岩雕菩薩頭. 中國, 約明代. 高 30 厘米.
HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 30 CM
