Jade. China, Qing dynasty, early 19th cent.
Rectangular form, well-rounded haptic edges. Found on both sides, within rectangular bordered sections, are various depictions in a beautiful composition. On one side, six characters in seal script as well as two fluttering bird-like motifs; on the other, two boys playing instruments - one blowing into a trumpet, the other hitting drums. A pavilion can also be seen. Above these fields are archaistic stylized taotie-masks, whose mouths serve as eyelets for the chord. The white-grey jade shows brown stains and textures due to iron inclusions; shining-through light reveals a slightly greener colour. Outstanding craftsmanship and flawlessly preserved.Expertise and age determination: Univ. Prof. Filippo Salviati, RomeDescription in German and English: Wolfmar Zacken
