Different wood species, mother-of-pearl, horn. Japan, HEIGHT DARUMA (TOBACCO VESSEL) 10,7 CM, LENGTH ASHINAGA 19,8 CM, LENGTH PIPE 20,1 CM A four-part group of sagemono rendered with a dash of humor, including the tonkotsu (vessel for tobacco), which is the largest element of this group, very amusing and carved with the renowned Daruma - he was founder of the Zen Buddhism. It is said that he meditated during nine years; in the end he strongly yawned and rose his arms. - The scene is grasped at this moment, the large face (with eyes inlaid with mother-of-pearl) can be removed from the tonkotsu and is hanging on a string that is running through the raised hands; arms, legs and face carved from delicate wood (possibly tsuge – boxwood), the vessel possibly carved from kiri (paulownia), with small ojime cut in form of an awabi clam. The group further including kiseruzutsu (pipe holder) carved in the shape of Ashinaga (long-legged companion of his long-armed counterpart Tenaga, who both lived as skillful fishermen on an island), standing on a rock with raised arms, the string running through his beard; kiseru (characteristic Japanese pipe), bearing a tiny head, crafted of bamboo and yellow metal, decorated in relief with the twelve animals of the zodiac. 19th century to Meiji From an Austrian private collection Ein seltenes und witzig gestaltetes Sagemono-Ensemble, das aus vier Teilen besteht. Der gr??te und amüsanteste ist der Tonkotsu (Beh?lter für Tabak), ausgeführt in der Gestalt des berühmten Patriarchen Daruma, des Gründers des Zen-Buddhismus. Daruma meditierte 9 Jahre lang, dann g?hnte er entsetzlich und ri? die Arme hoch. Sein gro?es Gesicht (die Augen mit Perlmutt eingelegt) l??t sich an diesem Tonkotsu entfernen - es h?ngt nur an der Schnur. Diese verl?uft durch die hochgehaltenen H?nde. Arme, Beine und Gesicht sind aus feinem Holz (vermutl. Tsuge, Buchs), das Gef?? selbst aus gr?berem (vermutl. Kiri, Paulownia). Der kleine Schnurregler Ojime ist eine Awabi-Muschel. Der Pfeifenhalter Kiseruzutsu ist ein Ashinaga, ein als “Langbein” benannter Inselbewohner. Zusammen mit “Langarm” Tenaga galten beide als besonders erfolgreiche Fischer. Ashinaga steht hier auf einem Fels und h?lt gleichfalls wie Daruma die Arme hoch, die Schnur verl?uft durch seinen Bart. Die typisch japanische Pfeife Kiseru mit winzigem Kopf ist aus Bambus und Gelbmetall, auf dem in Relief die 12 Tiere des Zodiakus abgebildet sind.
